From MANIFEST to TEXTURES: A New Chapter in Movement

Artistic Vision.

TEXTURES Dance Theatre is a Black-led, multigenerational contemporary dance company exploring the rich and varied textures of the human experience. Through movement, storytelling, and interdisciplinary collaboration, we examine the emotional, cultural, and spiritual layers that shape who we are and how we connect.
Centering Black artists and perspectives, TEXTURES brings together diverse movement languages, generations, and creative voices to create dance that is both deeply personal and universally resonant. Our artistic investigation is rooted in the belief that every life holds texture—joy and sorrow, softness and strength, struggle and transformation—and that movement can make these unseen dimensions visible.
Through original performances, artist development, mentorship, and community engagement, TEXTURES creates spaces for reflection, discovery, and meaningful connection. We envision our work contributing to an enduring cultural legacy in which Black stories are fully expressed, artists are empowered to thrive, and audiences are invited to recognize the depth and complexity of our shared humanity.

“Everything has texture not only the objects we see and touch, but also the emotions and experiences that shape us. Joy, sorrow, love, pain, struggle, and peace each carry their own depth and feeling. TEXTURES Dance Theatre brings these layers of the human experience to life through movement, revealing what is often felt but left unseen. Our work reminds us that, like the world around us, every person is composed of rich and diverse textures.”
